AICTE not to approve more part-time MBA courses due to misuse by Institutes
A senior AICTE official said, there are many B-schools around which are misusing the facility and running other programmes on the pretext of a part-time MBA programme.
They are not working within the regulated framework, which prompted us to take this step. The experts said this change could affect around 400 colleges and 20,000 students. These figures could not be verified with AICTE. Several calls to AICTE Chairman S S Mantha went unanswered. There are around 2,500 AICTE-approved management schools.
The B-schools concerned are unhappy. “Experienced people learn management much better than freshers. We have around 240 students for masters’ courses in management, finance, human resource and information management. We have already requested the vice-chancellor of the University of Mumbai to take up the matter with AICTE,” said Suresh Ghai, director, K J Somaiya Institute of Management and Research.
The three B-school’s directors said by this the higher education would be more costly than before and prevent growth and development of many working professionals.
According to a human resource director of a textile company, part-time management programmes allow employees to add knowledge.

Delhi, Andhra schools are 'greenest'
New Delhi: Schools from Andhra Pradesh and from the national capital were on Friday declared as the country's 'greenest' as they bagged the green school awards organized by the Centre for Scienceand Environment (CSE), an NGO.
Andhra Pradesh's Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Ongole and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Uppal, and Delhi's Kendriya Vidyalaya, Vigyan Vihar and Salwan Public School won the awards among 1,500 schools in 18 states.
CSE director general, Sunita Narain said that it is heartening to see that despite the limited resources, our rural, semi-urban, mid-rung and government educational institutions are actually leading from the front in driving change.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit gave away the awards.
Currently in the fifth year, under the programme, schools carry out rigorous self-audit on environmental practices within their own premises.
Sumita Dasgupta, programme director of CSE's education unit said that the schools have moved to using public transport or eco-friendly school buses. Energy conservation has been also a priority with schools taking care to consume less and use energy-efficient equipment.
Genelia steps out of Abhishek Bachchan's film
Abhishek Bachchan, Asin and Ajay Devgn starrer Bol Bachchan seems to be in news for all the wrong reasons. Rohit Shetty, who's gearing up for the release of Singham, was all set to direct this remake of yesteryear's cult film, Golmaal when one of the lead actresses in the film, Genelia D'Souze stepped out of the project. Initially, Samantha was said to be in talks with Rohit Shetty for the role; however, the makers finally opted for Genelia. However, days before the film goes on floors, she has stepped out.
While it's not clear if she was shown the door or if she stepped out voluntarily, rumours are rife that she was not happy with her role in the film. Apparently, she rubbed the makers on the wrong side due to this. However, other reports suggest that she opted out due to clash of dates. She's currently acting in Naa Ishtam with Rana and has to complete few songs for Force, a remake of Khaka Khaka Whatever maybe the case, she surely seems to have lost out a big film which could have restarted her career in Bollywood. Now, the hunt is on for another actress to replace Genelia in this film.

Haryana proposes teacher evaluation
Under the proposed strategy, teachers would be evaluated on three counts -- self-appraisal, management's evaluation and grading, and management's suggestions.
"The total marks for evaluation would be 100. Of these, 50 would be for students' results, 20 for assessment of principal and 10 each for assessment of school management and development committee (SMDC), additional professional qualifications acquired during the year and minimum training attended during the year," the spokesman said.
"Evaluation would be placed within a growth oriented and fair framework and the evaluation experience would be non-threatening and beneficial for all parties, especially the students," he added.
The proposed teachers' evaluation strategy has been uploaded on the department website and all stakeholders have been invited to send their comments through post or e-mail to identify areas for improvement, he said.
Third-party evaluation of performance of students has also been proposed under the scheme.
The SMDC would comprise members from parents, local bodies, panchayats, teachers and even students community.
"The committee would oversee the overall development of the school and also frame a school development plan. SMDC would keep an eye on each aspect of schooling - enrolment, retention, teacher attendance, discipline in the school, school infrastructure, school maintenance and cleanliness," he said.
The committee would also be asked to rate each teacher on punctuality, participation in school management and upkeep, teaching quality and student development
